Milei and his gang have suffered a heavy defeat in the midterm elections in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina’s most populous province, which is governed by Axel Kicillof, the main opposition figure together with Cristina Kirchner (who happens to be a prisoner of lawfare). The election turned into a plebiscite between two opposing forms of government. Above all, it was a rejection of Milei’s chainsaw, a tool that proved very favorable for the richest and very destructive for society as a whole. It was also a reaction to corruption scandals.
Hate speech and cruelty were useful to win the presidential race, implement a shock policy and facilitate enormous profits for a very small fraction. But after 20 months, the clown is no longer provoking so much laughter. And that’s despite his VIP media support and an army of trolls paid with public money.
Milei and his team mistreated their allies, underestimated the opposition and ignored the accumulated effect of mobilizations and actions by different sectors, like pensioners, people with disabilities, the doctors of public hospitals, state employees, university students, artists and many more.
The star of the international right is no longer on the rise; now it seems like a shooting star, and even a starfish can easily defeat him.
