MAGA is still on the roll.
ICE raids. Attacks on the Smithsonian and the CDC. Big, bad budget cuts. Tariff wars. Mass firings of federal workers. Parent-child separations. Millions lose Medicaid and food stamps. Extortion of higher education and media conglomerates. The dismantling of civil rights laws. The disappearance of voting rights. The termination of environmental protections. The evisceration of scientific research. And then there’s the $200 million Gilded Ballroom and the renaming of the Kennedy Center after Melania. Sigh. It’s the end of the world as we’ve known it, which is no laughing matter. That said, the comedians seem to be the only ones around right now willing to poke the bear. While artworld big shots hid from the horrors in the Hamptons this summer, South Park has had a field day making fun of Kristy Noem’s Botox face and Trump’s teeny weenie. Hats off to them! All the late-night talk show hosts have lined up behind Stephen Colbert and are ridiculing Orange Man and his Republican yes men. The world of comedy, a couple of brave musicians and the Governor of California have the temerity to call out MAGA for what it is an utterly amoral criminal enterprise with appallingly poor taste. The Siren’s new issue is our humble contribution to this send up of MAGA Madness. Let’s abolish ICE and deport ignorance!
